Author, humorist and blogger James Lilek has just be reassigned by his newspaper, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. They’ve cancelled his column and reassigned him to work the local newsbeat.
The Strib has long had a reputation as an epically clueless institution, but WOW. That’s all I can say to that. By the time enough people cancel their subscriptions to wise them up, I fully expect Lileks to have a better paying job somewhere else.
PEGGY: I don't see how having a girl on the team would ruin it. Did a woman judge ruin the Supreme Court?

I must admit: I love The Bleat and his other personal stuff, but I've never enjoyed his Trib work nearly as much. If the damned fool would just put some googleads up in personal stuff, he'd be able to to the columns he wants from home and get paid for it.

The Bleat and Institue of Cheer are just about my favorite humor websites, but I've got to admit his work in the paper itself wasn't nearly as much fun. But yeah, he's obviously got tremendous talent in web content -- his books read sort of like his Cheer articles, printed and bound -- and making him a reporter strikes me as a befuddling waste of talent.

| My guess is that they don't really want him as a reporter, but rather they would like him to quit. Give him a job he clearly doesn't want, and he can quit rather than be fired. |

Sounds like our local paper.
They fired almost our whole Ad Service dept., and farmed out our Advertiser Service to India.
Gave them all a heads up to look for other work the day before veterans day.Nice!
Explains why i got laughs when i said "Hal-ooh, my name is Apu. I will be handeling your ad to-day. Would you like a squishy?"
They also cut 10% of the news room, includeing some of our most popular local writers, like mike hardin.
And they wonder why things are in confusion...
