| Not even a rifftrax can make this movie worthwhile. It's so bad you can't even make fun of it. Plus the only improvement it offers from Star Wars - A New Hope is that the princess this time is hotter. |

You lie. Nothing is hotter than a pudgy coked up Carrie Fischer with sticky buns on her head. Except of course, less pudgy really coked up Carrie Fischer in a metal bikini but that goes without saying.

Hmmm... she is pretty hot in a waifish, angel with a dirty face kind of way. But I don't know if I'm ready to give up Carrie yet :0

Unlike Neville, I think this is a PERFECT movie for riffing. It's just competent enough not to be tedious, while giving you plenty of fodder for snarky comments. Eragon isn't really terrible, it's just more of the same Hollywoodized gruel they keep churning out at $100 million a pop; beautiful, but soulless.
The two biggest faults in it that I saw were these.
1. The resemblances to other movies were so blatant that you could never really immerse yourself in the story. Every time you tried to relax and suspend your disbelief, it slapped you hard with something that said "Hey, I'm just a movie!"
2. Eragon himself was such a dumb-ass. He spent so much of the movie not listening to anyone else's advice that when he finally came around to behaving responsibly it was too late. You already hated him too much to care. It also made the plot that much more predictable. You just knew that Obi-Wan...er...Brom, had to bite it in order to teach him a lesson. Even Luke Skywalker knew enough to listen to his mentor a little, at least when it came to learning something about his own abilities.
Other than that, I thought the movie was generally watchable, if not completely satisfying. The cgi effects were better than average, even though every shot with the dragon reminded me of Dragonheart. It would be a decent DVD rental, if there was nothing better in the store to rent, but not something you have to see. At least, not without a RIFFTRAX to keep you company! |

I just know I hated every minute of it. You know, I'm not the biggest fan of A new hope out there, so imagine the agony that meant having to realise that the same story can be told in a far worse fashion.
And the dialogue... the dialogue! Aghhhh! |
