This one's for hbrennan, who will appreciate it more than most. This is the intro for WPIX's "Chiller Theater" that's been mention on the boards.

If you can find a YouTube or a Google video of a favorite TV bumper that you haven't seen since you were a kid, particularly if it was lead-in for a late night horror or science fiction film, post it here.

I didn't like the later opening for Creature Feature they had on You Tube, but here's a better sequince. They even have some stuff on channel 13's "Shock Theater" in the comments!

This was on at 9:00 on Saturday night, but channel 44 changed it to 2:00 saturday afternoon a couple of years later. A bad move in my oppinon, because when watching these old movies on TV, it should be late at night (No earlier than 10:00) with the lights out, a pillow clutched to your chest.

Is THAT what those were?

I remember when I was a child living in Clearwater, FL( for a couple of years) they had this guy on TV who would introduce horror movies.

His name was Dr. Paul Bearer. Even through a child's eyes, I thought he was pretty goofy.

Nice! Very odd stuff. After seeing that I had to search for the Pittsburgh Chiller Theater show with "Chilly Billy" Cardille and found this-

-featuring some girl doing a damn good Agent 99.

Everyone needs to post the open for their local Saturday Late Show if they can find it! (And are old enough to remember that stuff, of course *g*)

I recall seeing Dr. Paul Bearer on TV when my family visited St.Petersberg FL back in 1975.

My favorite horror host was the "original" Svengoolie from SCREAMING YELLOW THEATER in Chicago back in the early '70s (later there was "Son of Svengoolie" who became just "Svengoolie", which is still running):

There actually quite a few Svengoolie bits on YouTube

Thanks, zombiewhacker! As a kid, sitting in our "finished" basement, on Saturday nights watching Chiller Theater on WPIX (Channel 11) in New York (Queens) - it was definitely the highlight of my week. I remember the transition from the original black and white intro (with Vampira from "Plan 9") to the color "six-fingered" claymation intro. Those were the days. From "Indestructible Man" to "She Demons" - it was absolutely the best!

In Columbus, OH, we had Fritz the Night Owl. It's where I got to watch the killer carpet flick and laughed the night away with my father.

In the New York City metro area WPIX's Chiller Theater was broadcast in the same time slot as WNEW's Creature Feature (a different one than the ones posted on You Tube. None of the shows in NY had a host), 8:00 Saturday evenings. I remember this creating quite a quandrum for one young kid. Luckily both stations as well as WOR broadcast the same type of fare on Saturday and Sunday mornings and afternoons so if I had to miss one it was bound to turn up some other time. Three independent stations that broadcast monster movies, I had it good as a kid.

And then of course every once in a while you had Monster Week on the 4:30 movie on Channel 7. A whole week of Godzilla movies after school.

I don't remember the Vampira opening, only the hand.

WNEW's Creature Feature did have a host early on. This would have been the early '70s. By the late '70s the host idea was abandoned.

But, yeah, I'm also surprised to hear that WPIX's Chiller Theater was once hosted by Vampira.

When I was growing up in Richmond, VA in the late '80s the local horror-host show was Dr. Gruesome's Movie Morgue on WRLH (Channel 35)- unfortunately, I couldn't find anything from it on YouTube.

I did, however, find this one clip of a recent convention appearance by "The Bowman Body", a horror host who was on the air here a bit before my time:

Funny thing is, I've actually met this guy on two occasions, and the first time I was completely unaware of his past career as the Bowman Body.

Chiller Theater wasn't HOSTED by Vampira. This is the original opening (in the mid 60's - before the hand)...
