| A while back Neville and (I think) B.T. mentioned a horror movie that had been a hit in Spain and was now being remade in the U.S. Something about a television crew in a haunted house. Can anyone remember the name of it? |

| I can answer that, it was [REC], and has been remade as Quarantine. BTW, it's not a "haunted house" type of film, rather a zombie / infected flick. |

And not only that, the film has been so succesful it is spawning different Spanish and American sequels.
The makers of the original are doing the final touches to [REC] 2, and the American producers just announced a Quarantine II based on an original script. |

I think it was an OK genre film in its own right, but I missed the spontaneity of the non-horror bits (the prologue at the firemen HQ, the interviews with the neighbours). The original wasn't exactly an arthouse film, but it had a very original horror vs. documentary subtext going on that was less noticeable here.
I also enjoyed Jennifer Carpenter's performance, but again, something was missing. She nailed the emotional breakdown her character suffers, but she missed the duality between "sweet girl next door" and "cold hearted bitch that only cares about her piece" that made Manuela Velasco's performance so memorable.
Update: There's a teaser of the official sequel at http://www.rec2lapelicula.com/ It plays automatically upon loading the website, and looks mighty cool. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
