Terminator will go PG-13 for the next entry.
Some other series that transitioned to PG or PG-13
Conan Robocop Die Hard Predator Alien Mad Max
Highlander and the Howling went PG-13, then reverted to R. Only the second Jack Ryan film got an R.
In contrast to these series, some film series have stayed R for all entries, but most of those series ended in the 1990's or earlier (e.g. Delta Force perhaps, Death Wish, Dirty Harry, Darkman). Rambo stayed R, but it had an afternoon cartoon spin-off. However, so far the longest running adventure film series to stay R for all entries and that never had an afternoon cartoon spin-off stands as Shaft, 29 years from 1971 to 2000. In horror films, so far, even the remakes have stayed R-rated (e.g. Halloween, Friday the 13th), with the Texas Chainsaw Massacre having had 32 years of all R-rated entries (1974 to 2006).

Don't forget Ghost in the Shell . The original movie was "R," but its sequel Ghost in the Shell: Innocence is rated PG-13. All the other follow-on episodes are also rated PG-13 or something similar.

In the case of Innocence I never noticed. GinS wasn't driven by violence anyway. Here I thought T:3 already made the jump to PG-13. Bad memory on that one...
