I tried to figure out which media franchise has the longest used original theme tune (sorry, Green Hornet-both Jabootu poster and media franchise, Flight of the Bumblebee does not count, nor does his granduncle for the William Tell overture). I had though Godzilla might have a chance, but it turns out the Saint theme tune goes back to the 1938 film The Saint in New York before the 1960's TV show used it. The theme appeared in Val Kilmer's 1997 film as a car alarm and elsewhere (as pointed out by the director on the commentary).
So, 1938 to 1997; 59 years.
The Imdb announced a new Saint project for 2009.
So, 2009-1938=71 years.

| What about Dr. Who? The theme has been revamped in recent seasons, but it still remains very close to the original, or at least the one I remember from previous instalments. |

Aww shucks!
Anyway, "The James Bond Theme" was introduced in Dr. No in 1962.
Your Hit Parade ran on radio from 1935-1955 and from 1950-1959 on TV. It's theme song was "Lucky Day" because they were spoincered by Lucky Strike cigaretts.
American Bandstand aired from 1952 to 1989, using "Tommy dorsey's Boogie Woogie" as it's theme.
"The Queen is testing poisons." CLEOPATRA, 1935 |
