Greetings, and apologies if this has already been gone over. But I just saw Steven Seagal's "Against the Dark" and, honestly, thought it was a better version of "I Am Legend" than the Will Smith film of a year or two ago. ("Better" but not "more faithful." Someday this novel will be done right...)
Anyway, I noticed in the credits the following strange listing. The final credit, long after "Tao: Steven Seagal" is "Tao (voice): Alin Olteanu."
Did Steven Seagal have his own voice dubbed?!?
?!?

Indeed. It has become a sign of how little interest he has in his movie career these days that he won't even bother to re-record his dialogue in the scenes where live audio is unuseable. In some of his latest DTV adventures, he even has different people dubbing him in separate scenes.

How does this guy still get work? Much bigger actors than his direct-to-video butt manage to get to the studio to re-record their dialogue. When did Steven Seagal become special?
You know Grand Funk, don't you? The wild, shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner? The bong-rattling bass of Mel Schacher? The ... adequate drumwork of Don Brewer?

My guess is that anything with "Steven Seagal" on the cover (plus a heavily photoshoped image of the actor) still obtains a marginal profit.

Wow. I have a new definition of "lazy." That's just astonishing.
