You can choose not to pay your taxes, but then it becomes the judge's business. No, thanks. Most of them are indirect taxes, anyway, so you'll be paying them you want it or not. A good deal of what we pay for gas is taxes, for instance.

Good to hear deregulated stuff is working well there. To be fair electric power is working well here too. We'll see what happens in the following years, when they end up having to replace stuff and they start raising prices. Knowing them, they'll probably turn to daddy estate as well.

The real problem is that the *federal* government takes our money and redistributes it. The states should get what the fed does, and the fed should get what the states' average tax is (5%?), and pay for the few things the fed is supposed to be doing, like providing the military. There would be no federal entitlements.

With the bulk of your money going to your local government(s), you'd have a lot more control and visibility over how it's spent. The whole reason all the money gets sent to Washington is so that you can't possibly track where it goes after that. With the states each getting the larger part of the tax revenue, we'd have 50 laboratories / systems spending various levels of taxation and providing various levels of services, etc. People who wanted to live in high taxation / services states could do so, and vice versa. Same with companies.

Not perfect, but a hell of a lot better than what we have now, and then we wouldn't have the frickin' courts declaring everything to be a 'right.' It would also put pressure on states that were misspending money (see California and about 49 other states right now), since it would encourage a mobile population that would be more likely to flee to better climes in the face of gross mismanagement.

That's fair enough, I guess. BTW, did I infer correctly from your post in another thread that you are getting married? Because I think that requires a congratulations thread.

Yes. No such thread needed. I'll probably hang up my (occasional) reviewer's pen when I do, but I have a nugget and a full review left in me in the meantime.

Well, let me just say that he's a fortunate man, whoever he is. Will you post pictures from the wedding? I'm a huge sap when it comes to weddings and christenings.

It won't be for a bit, but when the family shrew is finally married off I'm sure my sis will make sure everybody in Western Civilization with a phone will be getting the pics.

But... but when you're gone, who'll review Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny for us? We can't leave that sort of thing to Ken. He's too sensitive.

But she can't be a Nun of Jabootu when she's married. She'll have lost the necessary qualifications.

I suppose she could be upgraded to Bride of Jabootu, though. :)

I think that since she has reviewed gross-out comedies she should try her hand at saccharine rom-coms. Anyone have any suggestions?
