And I loved reading that story, as a kid, too. Actually, I loved Bradbury's style, in general, and found his work to be "a medicine for melancholy" on many a lonely occasion. C'mon, Ben Kingsley - get it together - you were "Gandhi" for crying out loud"!

Uh, yeah, but he was also in Species and Slipstream and plenty of other thankless sci-fi/horror pics.
It's a race to the bottom between Kingsley and his Slipstream co-star F. Murray Abraham: each Oscar winner determined to prove he can do a better job of overloading his resume with Jabootu-worthy fare.
But be advised, Ben and Fayid: Michael Caine is way ahead of you. |

At the Cinelandia message board it has received the worst reviews I ever read on it, all universally negative. And considering that the community is so diversi that even bad movies like the Fantastic Factory flicks or, ahem, European Gigolo receive mixed reviews, it's a kind of achievement.
The late Peter Hyams is the living proof that slome people just don't learn to retire on time. If his later stuff was signed by Renny Harlin or Walter Hill, we wouldn't notice the difference. |

Yeah, it looks like this is gonna suck, which is unfortunate. I loved that story as a kid. Bradbury is one of the only classic sci-fi writers I've ever really liked. I was a terrible science student, and for whatever reason I had almost no interest in space travel, so the works of people like Asimov (yeah I know, spelled wrong) and Clarke bored me to tears. Who wants to use futuristic machines to conduct a bunch of experiments when you can hunt freakin dinosaurs!

| Quite a charming literary review of the whole mess here, http://www.grouchoreviews.com/index.php?module=Movie_Reviews&func=display&id=2342. |

I also liked the STORY when I was young. It had been sdapted for a TV show around 1980 (I think) but the ending for THAT was heavy-handed and over-done while the ending for the short story was subtle (And GOOD).

| Yeah, it's a hell of a story. But again, so are most of those by Philip K. Dick, and see what crappt movies they are making with them, "Minority Report" apart. |

Maybe it's already been said somewhere, but when I read the reviews, the title THE SOUND OF BLUNDER comes to mind.

| It has been renamed as well, in the above mentioned Spanish board, as EL SONIDO DEL PEDO, which, I'm telling you, it's not flattering. |

Would that be the "The Sound of Flatulence"? (to be polite) - my Spanish is a bit rusty.

Not that rusty, that's exactly what it means.
Hey, if you are all that good with Spanish, I'm gonna have to consider posting in my native tongue from now on! |

| Returning to our object of discusion, a quick visit to http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/sound_of_thunder/shows an abysmal score of 7%. Only a small comedy called Underclassman ranks lower than this. |

As a point of fact, I have never been completely convinced that Ben Kinsley and F. Murray Abraham weren't actually the same person! If this movie Slipstream exists, perhaps it provides photographic evidence that they are actually two different people. |

Oh, it decidely exists as I've seen it.
To my knowledge, the best use for it is for discussing Mark Hamill's live action career post-Star Wars. For example, "The Guyver might be bad, but at least it's not Slipstream."
BM: I should have mentioned this at the beginning. I solve my problems with violence. |

On a sidenote, Bob Peck was probably the best thing about Slipstream (he played the android there and also the game warden in Jurassic Park). He seemed to have a promising career ahead of him but sadly died of cancer not long after Jurassic Park came out.
The big difference between Kingsley and Abraham is that the former since his Oscar win will occasionally redeem himself by appearing in A-list films like Schindler's List. Abraham, by constrast, just keeps spiraling down and down and down. I'm probably the only person on Earth who liked By the Sword... but aside from that... |

Yes, but Bloodrayne will immediately invalidate everything good Kingsley has ever done when it comes out. Actually, it may pretty much invalidate everything good human civilization has ever done.
