There's this adaptation of the classic Herman Melville story "Bartleby the Scriviner" just called Bartleby. The main storyline would have made a good, darkly satiric short film. However, they added a bunch of really stupid comedy. One scene in particular is the worst bit of slapstick I have ever seen. A guy is trying to change the toner or ink cartridge or something in an office copier or printer or something. Of course, this makes a big mess, and he winds up accidentally dumping the cartridge in the water cooler. This was so poorly filmed that it looked like the guy had very carefully planned to deliberately put the cartridge in the cooler, which made no sense at all.
Reality is a crutch for people who can't face up to science fiction. |
