Nothing big, just my brief thoughts.

Also, some good DVD stuff out today.

PEGGY: I don't see how having a girl on the team would ruin it. Did a woman judge ruin the Supreme Court?
HANK: Yes, and that woman's name was Earl Warren.

On a local station here in Chicago ("MEtv" chanel 23), they've been running GET SMART -- really great to see that again. They're also playing old commercials including an hilarious Skittle Pool ad starring Adams.

Two of my favorite GET SMART episodes freature Joey Foreman as "oriental detective" Harry Who(one of which also features the villainous Claw). The interplay between Smart and Who always has me in sticthes.

Another catchphrase from the show is when Smart would be confronted buy some goon, insult him (call him "fat head" or something), then ineffectually attempt to dispose of him; when he sees his efforts are futile, he'd say (getting all chummy)"I hope I wasn't out of line with that crack about "fat head"...)

Oops, that's the line, I think I misquoted it.

Sadly, I don't get MeTV. Dammit.

Whenever my boss gives me a task, I like to say "Okay, but there's just one part I didn't understand. The part after 'Here's what I want you to do.'"

Interesting to think of him as a Marine Drill Instructor.

I thought so, too. He always played these goofy characters, but nobody's more hardass than a Marine DI.

It was a great show, Mel Brooks and Buck Henry at their best! I have the "Would You Believe..." book somewhere in my junk.

We could combine this with another thread, and say, "Gee, I think you need to post in the Cone of Silence."

TVLand used to show Get Smart but now they don't. Haven't for awhile. It's one of the few sitcoms of a certain vintage I enjoy. True it could a little obvious but the cast really helped sell it.

Adams was an established stand up comic, a recognizable name, before Get Smart. He did celebrity impersonations and all that. Apparently his "Sorry 'bout that" voice was based on his impression of William Powell in 'The Thin Man'.

A friend of mine was a jarhead for 6 years, and did 4 months in Nam. Don's posture and dress kinda show the same attention to detail as my friend.
The was Smart walks and moves reminds me of that.

Actually, I could imagine Adam's delivery becoming pretty intimidating in a different type of role - take away the comedy, and put a touch of ice into the quick speech patterns. I wouldn't mess around under his instruction, that's for sure.
