Long-time lurker, first-time poster...
1) Brody slinging chum in "Jaws".
2) Viewed with perspective - I saw "The Devil's Rain" when I was nine years old and it scared the bejesus out of me, especially the "melting" scene. Saw it again twenty years later, and couldn't believe what a cheese-fest it was.
3) MacReady sticking the hot wire into the petri dish in "The Thing"
4) The hallway scene in "Exorcist 3". No matter how many times I've seen it, it still freaks me out. Someone posted above calling it a "spring-loaded cat" moment, which is a great description. But it's one of the most well done spring-loaded cat scenes I've seen.
5) "Pet Cemetary 2". The film was utter crap; what was scary was that I sat through the whole thing in the theater.
6) With the recent release of the remake of "The Fog" I decided to watch the original for the first time in years. I was watching it at night with all the lights out, as all horror movies should be viewed, IMHO. About midway through the film, as the lights in the town are going out due to the nefarious fog, all the streetlamps on my road went out, plunging the area into total darkness. Now, I'm a rational 35-year old man, but that moment gave me a grade-A attack of the heebie-jeebies!
7) Ash goes after Ripley in "Alien"
I think I could go on for hours, so I'd better stop now.
