| I didn't object to the redefined relationship between Kong and Ann as much as the way it was presented. Teaching Kong rudimentary sign language? Okay. "Ice skating" with him on a frozen lake (which, like every other flimsy surface in the film, still manages to support his mutli-ton weight) in Central Park? Downright goofy. |

Saw it tonight. I thought it was fantastic. It was a stroke of genius to devote that much time to charcacter building. However, what really got to me were the island natives. Seriously creepy. It honesly made me laugh to see the stage show in Manhattan depict, spot-on, the riduculous, sterotypical "natives" of the original film. By the way, the T-Rex would notice her by smell. If you look hard enough, you can always find a flaw, somewhere. Me? I have no barbs to throw. This film is a classic. Period.

Yep, that's how I want to die - naked in public, shot down by the feds after abducting a beautiful blonde woman who really secretly wants me and causing a lot of property damage in the meantime. Look for it on your weird news site of choice in the future.

I will, as soon as the Killer Mutant Virus from Outer Space decides to abandon my body - which, by all available evidence, will be some time in 2009.
Perhaps KONG will be in a revival theater then? |

Sorry to hear about that, twitterpate. I was hit pretty hard, myself over the holiday (as attested to in my blog). But anyway, "Kong" is a BIG movie and really should be seen in a theater as opposed to DVD (unless you have one of those huge home theater setups).

It should be pointed out that Kong is a huge overseas hit (bigger than in the US). A $550M-$600M worldwide gross seems all but certain, so once you factor out the exhibitors' take and all the other bookkeeping garbage, this film could still turn a tidy profit despite its gargantuan $200M budget.
And although you're probably correct that this deserves to be seen on a big screen (I haven't seen it myself), DVD revenue will probably be icing on the cake. Not bad for a 3 hour giant monkey movie. |

I still contend that Denham was wrong... Its wern't Beauty killed the beast, it was 1000 rounds of 30'06 and a wopping great fall! The chick was just the prime motivator...and most guys can identify with that....well, i can...
Ya know, Zombiewacker, sure, technicly, it should be "Giant APE movie..." But monkey is just a funny word...much funnier then Ape. I mean....saying it as "Don't touch my ape" just ain't as funny.

| I have not seen the new KING KONG and I can't comment on it. But remaking a classic will always provoke unfavorable comparisons. There are die-hard fans of the original KING KONG out there, who will never admit that a remake has any merit. I do not understand Hollywood's remake fever. If I were an actress or a director or a screenswriter, I would want to make my own movies, create my own characters, risk making my own mistakes. If I were Peter Jackson and wanted to do something similar to KING KONG, I would film Theodore Stugeon's short story "It." |
