Oh, Crikey, another one?! Let's see, there was the first one with Kevin McCarthy, the one with Donald Sutherland (maybe not as classic as the original, but still damned good), and the one with Gabrielle Anwar (not a classic, but... uh... hey, it's got Gabrielle in a nude scene, so I'm okay with it. Oink). This would be number four.
Hasn't anyone in Hollywood noticed that of all the remakes we've seen recently, you can count the successful ones on one hand?! |

Any chance the emotionless cold-blooded alien lifeform would hunt down any midget Scientologists?

I think they were talking about this movie:
http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0427392/
quote: Plot Outline: As a Washington psychiatrist (Kidman) unearths the origin of an alien epidemic, she also discovers her son might be the only way it can be stopped.
Not much to go on, and I suppose The Visiting might be similar to The Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but it's hard to tell if it's a remake. The director did the pretty good German movie Das Experiment, so it may be something to watch out for.
EDITED TO ADD:
The IMDB does list it as a remake under "movie connections." Of course, they also listed The Island as a remake of Parts: The Clonus Horror . . .
Reality is a crutch for people who can't face up to science fiction. |

What's up with all these alien invasion / take-over tv shows and movies that seem to be coming out in the past 6 months? I didn't think WotW did enough business to generate this kind of response from "hey, me too!" studio executives to greenlight a crop of invasion features.
Unless, of course, the Greys are finally going to rise up from their secret bases in South America and finally bring utopia to all of humankind. In which case, these things are just preparing us for the inevitable. All hail our alien overlords!

And can I remind them that as a trusted TV personality in the UK, I would be very useful in helping to round up slaves to work in their sugar mines.

UnknownSubject, I just assign it to the entertainment industry's herd mentality. NBC has an alien show, so ABC decides they had better get an alien show.
I actually have been enjoying "Invasion" on ABC. It has the IotBS premise but at least was smart enough to add the twist about the dopplegangers having some confusion as to their true identities.
The ROPe gives you three options, convert, submit, or die. There is a fourth, resist. |

That sounds right, but I find it odd that after several years of nothing, there seems to be a glut of sci-fi on the tv.
These shows are only just starting up in Australia - I saw the first episode of "Supernatural" and didn't mind it. "Invasion" looks interesting, but a lot of the time I just think, "I'll wait until it arrives on DVD" for these new shows.

Often (Cheaper by the Dozen) they maul the book and the original film. Instead of remaking CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN, and turning the Gilbreths into a basketball coach and an author when they were efficiency experts, why not film some of the books of the late Teresa Bloomingdale, a housewife and the mother of ten children, who became, in middle age, a successful author and newspaper columnist? Instead of remaking FAIR GAME (the original film was called COBRA) and MAN ON FIRE, when neither film was any good to begin with, why not film some of the other works of Paula Gosling and A.J. Quinnell? They both wrote some very good books. And speaking of MAN ON FIRE and COBRA/FAIR GAME, why were all the films such hatchet jobs? Why pay good money for the film rights to a good book and then wreck it? |
