| I suddenly don't feel so bad about hating Fargo. I would mock it, but the only thing I can say about that movie is that it's unmemorable. I remember not laughing a lot. At stuff the filmmakers thought was funny. |

Here's a helpful hint, guys: When you leave a movie in a theater before the end, you're entitled to get your money back. The theater owner will ask you why (he has to); you can simply say, "It wasn't what I expected," and that's good enough. ("Flaming bag of poo" works too.)
You will have wasted an hour of your life or more, but at least your money will be back in your pocket.
Nathan Shumate http://www.coldfusionvideo.com
Or better, just complain that the print was scratched, the projector bulb was too dim, the picture was out of focus and framed wrong, a speaker was out and the assistant manager was clearly visible jerking off in the booth and you're never coming back to this lousy theater in your life. You'll get your money back because unless you have a miraculously nice theater most if not all of these things will be true.
(BTW that last thing really happened once too, at a theater I was working at.)
In the days before video, I used to go to the revival houses to watch oldies-but-goldies and often they WERE using a lousy print. The first time I saw GONE WITH THE WIND, the soundtrack was in such lousy condition, I couldn't follow the story. Ditto for STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. |

Dukes of Hazzard is the only movie I've ever walked out of.
The question being, of course, why did I walk into it in the first place?

Two reasons:
Jessica Simpson.
At least until she started talking.

Am I the only heterosexual male for whom Jessica Simpson does absolutely nothing? To me she seems fake, doll-like, not quite human. Like if you hit her with a flame thrower, her polymer outer shell would liquefy and run, exposing the fembot mechanisms underneath.

I actually agree with you, but if I ever actually had some kind of shot at her there's no way I'd be passing it up, and neither would you. *g* I like girls with a little geek appeal though, like Kari on Mythbusters. Or Lisa Loeb. |

Henry "Showing My Age" Brennan

I admit it: I find Jessica Simpson visually diverting. I am from NJ, and the whole big hair & overinflated other parts strikes a chord.
And yet: I was always slightly more attracted to Jan Smithers on WKRP (though don't get me wrong: in her day Loni Anderson was what Jessica Simpson can only dream of being), and to this day Keira Knightley makes me feel like when we used to climb the rope in gym class.
What it comes down to is: a pretty girl is a pretty girl, no matter what shape she comes in.
MikeC, Lisa Loeb? Maybe. Kary Byron... AW HELL YEAH!!!!!! |

Jessica Simpson is about ten seconds' worth of eye candy. The appeal wears off when you realize that's all there is.
Lisa Loeb? Yep. Geeky-sexy all the way. Same with Kari from Mythbusters, although I've always been more attracted to Scottie. Something about the tattooed bad girl in pigtails (who welds and plays in a punk band) that gets my heart going ba-bump ba-bump ba-bump. |

| Scottie works too, especially when she's arc welding. I didn't know she plays in a band- that's a plus, for sure. |

Does "Solaris" count since I fell asleep watching it? I like brainy sci-fi and don't need explosions or fights every couple of minutes, but in "Solaris" nothing happens. You show up on a space station where everyone has a double and your dead wife suddenly appears and it's ho-hum.
The ROPe gives you three options, convert, submit, or die. There is a fourth, resist. |

I agree with you on "Solaris". I didn't walk out, but did find myself checking my watch quite often. I wanted to enjoy it, I really did - an intelligent sci-fi film is released so rarely - but snoooooooooooze.

I'm all about the Solaris remake- I've been a huge fan of Stanislaw Lem since I was a kid and this version was reasonably accurate to the source material. I found the Russian version of the film turgid though.
Coming soon- Eraserhead: The Musical!! |

That would give me an extra hour of sleep. :-)
The Soviets could live with the longer version since it was better than their existence. :-)
Sorry, but the film is completely lifeless. Clooney is an automaton in the film. There's no sense of the madness from such a situation. The Twilight Zone has done better with similar themes.
