...almost sounds as if Ken didn't think it was a good movie. :)

We have our share of left-wing nutcases making movies here in Sweden too. Their movies sometimes bomb, but sometimes actually do rather well. The director Lukas Moodyson is especially famous for flipping the bird at the entire film elite at the Swedish version of the Oscars (I wonder what would happen if someone did that at the real one...) He is actually quite talented, but since the success of his first movies, he's grown to think he's Lenin's gift to the film world (he doesn't believe in God) and his latest movie was such a disastrous flop that one can only hope that he's not invited to direct without strict guidelines. As I said, he's talented but he needs restrictions...

BTW, how much does it cost to become Official Sponsor? I'd love to see what Ken makes of "KISS meets the phantom of the park". I feel it's Jabootu-worthy...

A $25 base buys you the SUPER IMMENSE HONOR AND PRESTIGE (not to mention the sex-crazed groupies) of becoming a Jabootu Sponsor for a month. About the only tangible benefit--and I'm using the word 'tangible' loosely--is to choose a film off a long list for your official Sponsor's Pick review. I'll be posting that list soon so people can look it over.

In your case, you only need to wait. After ERIC (see how much more demi-god like his name sounds now), we have another sponsor lined up for May, and he alreadly picked Kiss Meets the Phantom. (Glad I got one of those rare DVDs before they were pulled from the shelves.)

PEGGY: I don't see how having a girl on the team would ruin it. Did a woman judge ruin the Supreme Court?
HANK: Yes, and that woman's name was Earl Warren.

A review of BJ Goes To Washington!! All my prayers are answered!! I'm going to the store and buying a bottle of Merlot to go with this one. Two- two botles of Merlot.

And Kiss Meets The yadda yadda yadda- I was going to try my hand at that one myself. It has everything a good bad movie should have. Robots, EEEEvil scientists, not to mention Kiss... in a park.... I'm pretty sure this must have been based on an unused Scooby Doo script. Look at the producers...

Coming soon-
Eraserhead: The Musical!!

Thanks for the catch, Sardu! I've made the change.

And now I feel like going to MacDonald's for one of their EggMacNuthin' sandwiches.

I'm waiting for Adam Sandler to remake this movie. After all the original was supposed to be a sequel to Mr. Deeds Goes to Town.

$25 isn't really much...hmm...I could send you the Swedish flop "Tre Solar", but I'm afraid you wouldn't know the actors and that was half the fun of that movie - to see Swedish movie stars making fools of themselves...

Hmm, a Laughlin produced Billy Jack, anti-Iraq War, teen sex and teen suicide CGI epic sounds like a great vehicle for an Al Gore TV original mini-series. Since Laughlin is too old for the role at this point maybe they could get Steven Seagal to play a middle aged Billy Jack.

I feel compelled to share my absolute favorite part of the review:
quote:
He does pause to lecture the gallery against such outbursts, however, and notes that such will not influence his actions. Then he says, “The Chair recognizes…” and dramatically pauses — well, ‘dramatically’ pauses, anyway — as the camera cuts around to various faces that have assumed suspenseful expressions, “....Senator Jack!”

When I first read that, for the briefest of moments I thought it said the speaker at the end was recognizing Samurai Jack. Then I suddenly envisioned the camera swooping across the assembled faces of the senators to focus on Senator Samurai Jack among them. Then I couldn't help but think about how much cooler this movie would have been if Samurai Jack and Billy Jack clashed in congress.

Seriously, just imagine it for a moment.

Heck- there could be a whole thread of films that would be better if Samurai Jack was in them. Just imagine how much better Smokey And The Bandit would be. Or My Dinner With Andre.

The sad thing is that Seagal may well be a better actor...

Perhaps there should be a Hall of Fame page for past sponsors, so their names will never die?

You know, I noticed something kind of funny. Ken's afterword says the movie was barely released ("merest token release") yet the disc from the Ultimate Billy Jack Collection says the movie wasn't theatrically released at all.

Trying to add some appeal, Mr. Laughlin?

No, as a matter of fact, there has never been one single time where I've been mellow.

The film definately was released to a few theaters (and did very poorly), it was even reviewed in Variety. However, that contradicts the "blocked by eee-vil guv'ment forces" story, and so is generally glossed over.

It makes you wonder if someone out there has a copy of the "full" version and is just protecting everyone by not showing it or releasing it.
