By the way, never use the phrase "The Emperor is naked" when discussing Star Wars ever again. That's a bad, bad image.

Unfortunately, it sounds like they'll only do a rip of the laser disks with little or no clean up, so frames like this will remain the same:

Still, I'll pick them up and then get the x0 thing when it's ready, too. |

I thought there was an unspecial edition on DVD already... I remember noticing the packaged trilogy at a department store and after carefully looking over the package I was under the strong impression that it was indeed the original, yet remastered (which I'm totally cool with). I guess it's a good thing I never bought it then, because I would have been royally torqued off.
Quoth cschack's link:
quote: “See the title crawl to Star Wars before it was known as Episode IV — A New Hope; see the pioneering, if dated, motion-control model work on the attack on the Death Star; groove to Lapti Nek or the Ewok Celebration song like you did when you were a kid; and, yes, see Han Solo shoot first,” according to Lucasfilm.
Why do I get the feeling that should end with "...you big bunch of babies," and said in a sarcastic, pandering tone of voice? |

I don't know. But there is something ironic about a guy who spoke out against colorization in the 80's using digital effects to monkey with the movies that made him famous over and over again.
And I was prepared to accept the special edition, but how could anyone look at the retooled Greedo scene and say "this is the movie I really wanted to make"? |

The truly rat-bastard-scum-sucking part of this is that he's putting them on two-disk sets with the Special Editions- which I (and most people) have already shelled out plenty of cash for. I am not going to double dip those things until HD versions come out. So unless these are priced at about $9.99 I'm warming up the DVD ripper. Which I'm actually generally strenuously against on moral grounds- but this is just too asshole-ish.
Coming soon- Eraserhead: The Musical!! |

Hey, I'll take almost anything. I've got the letterboxed original remastered VHS version (thank you, eBay) and although it plays great I'm screwed if my VCR decides to eat one of the tapes.
From my perspective, even laserdisk quality would be a step up. |

I asked the guy in Best Buy about that, and he said that box set was the...um, the first "Special Edition," the one released in 1997. |
