What the heck is that supposed to mean?
It could mean that they knew the bird flu was going to pop up in China then move to Turkey and Africa before it happened . . . in which case one wonders why they haven't supplanted Gene Dixon yet.
It could also mean that this is all they knew about the flu prior to filming (and consider that being well informed). Great. Nice to know real research was done before starting the project.
It could also mean this was the extent of the knowledge of the consultants, in which case the entire production staff should be taken out and shot for hiring crap consultants.
The last one reminds me of an old SNL bit where they are interviewing an actor who has done a "geat deal of research" preparing for his roles. As the interview progresses you quickly realize that his "research" consists entirely of learning how to pronounce words. They then show a clip of his "latest film" where you discover he can't even do that right.

Hey, movies like this serve a vital function. They prove beyond a doubt that the events depicted will never happen. Would you rather they DIDN'T make a lousy, alarmist TV movie, and then a few months later, we're all dead? Huh? Is that what you want?

More bird flu to come in the form of SCREECH, a Sci-Fi Channel original movie slated for next year that will recycle Hitchcock's THE BIRDS with the added bonus that they're also carrying the bird flu. See, if the birds don't kill you then their disease will!

Working at an ABC affiliate station can have its advantages such as when an advance feed of FATAL CONTACT: BIRD FLU IN AMERICA comes across the satellite. Folks, a future camp classic is just days away. Here's a link to my advance review:

Kind of half watched it while working. The ending speach was a hoot. They try to give actual facts about Bird Flu without making it clear how ridiculous the whole thing was, and ended up having to tell the old "Our gasoline contains no molassas" lie by truth. I'd love to see that speech applied to other shows:
"To date no Italian plumbers have ever been attacked by barrel throwing gorillas in America, but the danger is real. Please contact the government and urge them to help research better hammers to help protect the millions of potential victims of construction site gorilla violence."

My defense is that the book in question makes this tv movie look like THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN.
