| Er... Sensitive to the the rights of minorities as I am, have those people counted how many times movie villains were not albinos? Not that I am encouraging non-albinos to boycott the rest of the movies, but a handful of villains over the years doesn't exactly prove a bias against albinos, just a penchant for unusual looks on the filmmakers' side. |

I'll predict that it is a success for the simple reason of hype. The first weekend will probably be huge. That alone will get it close enough to be a success regardless of what happens that following weeks. If it is as dull/uninspiring as the critics are saying, then after the first week or so, it will limp along based mainly on the sales to people who think The Da Vinci Code is based on real history.
The ROPe gives you three options, convert, submit, or die. There is a fourth, resist. |

agreed but the point he is making is
quote: "Silas is just the latest in a long string," McGowan said. "The problem is there has been no balance. There are no realistic, sympathetic or heroic characters with albinism that you can find in movies or popular culture."
unless you count Elric of Melnibone.

For myself, I won't miss the age of Cruise and Hanks and Roberts. (Although I do miss the age of Bogart and Hepburn and Stewart.) I think we're just moving towards a time when the movie concept and execution will be comparatively more important than having a 'star' in it. There will still be popular actors, but I think fewer people will be considered draws just in and of themselves.
Everytime I see a really good animated film, I wonder if CGI will be the downfall of the "big star" in Hollywood. A well-animated film could be voiced by relative unknowns and still be a success.

*I* think we're moving towards a time where "reality shows" will gradually replace movies until all entertainment will consist of security camera footage. |
