Except that the fanboys/girls seem to be arguing that the gaffes in the new trilogy were the precise reasons why they weren't entertained.

All the fanboys I know LOVE the new trilogy. They won't admit they suck.

I gotta admit I enjoyed Phantom Menace, but it was primarily because of four words: Liam Neeson. Darth Maul.
Oh, right! They weren't around for the other two! THAT's why I didn't see Send In The Clones in the theater and haven't even bothered to rent Revenge of the Nerds, uh, Sith on DVD. |

I wish YouTube would let us copy the movies. Some of the best are Star Wars based.

Maybe if he used the Force to take down the tractor beam, it would make him "visible" to any Sith on board, and thus they would know what he was up to. I cannot believe I just wrote that.

This is where my idea falls to the ground. I could only hope that you wouldn't make that argument, but I can see that you're more than a match for me.(/M.Python) |

A fair point. But I should point out that Obi-Wan clearly does use some Jedi mind-trickery to distract two stormtrooper guards while he moves in to diabled the tractor beam.
In Lucas' defense - and THAT'S something I rarely say - it is pretty 'canon' that the Jedi and Sith use the Force in different ways; it's comparable to the way Karate and Aikido are both martial arts, yet radically different from each other.

The only areas where Sith and Jedi differ is the "choke grip" and possibly the lightning bolts from the hands. (I don't feel like renting Clones at the moment; someone tell me... when Dookoo shots lightning bolts at Yoda, did Yoda merely deflect them or did he fire lightning back?)
Otherwise, both Jedi and Sith are remarkably similar in their abilities; both can do the bouncy-bouncy thing, both are telekinetic, etc. Note Qui-Gonn's remark after his first encounter with Darth Maul (paraphrasing): "He was very skilled in the Jedi arts."
Yes, Obi did the mind trick, but my point was that the mind trick wasn't something you could see. Remember, we were discussing how come Han Solo didn't believe in the Force when the Jedi were supposedly all over the place twenty years before. My point was that if the Jedi were as boring as they were portrayed in New Hope it's no wonder Han had never been impressed by them. |

1) I don't recall Yoda shooting the bolts back.
2) Did any Sith ever do that "ventriloquist" thing?
3) The Han Solo thing is a good point. Clearly here, Lucas used the Sith power of "pull the backstory out of my ass."

| I remember either Mad magazine or Cracked magazine -- I think it was Cracked -- having some fun with the Star Wars series after Empire came out. They predicted there would be a total of TWELVE movies, and they jumped around in episodes (1 would follow 8, 9 would follow 3, etc.). They had titles like "Cut and Droid" and "Lando Plenty." And they took the Vader-is-your-father bit to extremes, giving soap-opera type backstories for all the major characters. With hindsight, the parody actually made more sense than what Lucas ended up giving us. |

Shoulda checked around for this before making that last post. It was Mad magazine. Too bad this link doesn't have pictures, I remember they were some funny stuff. But this is kinda scary; Lucas's mindset is almost as disjointed as THIS damned thing!

You would think- mind control seems like a pretty dark sidey thing to do!! It really doesn't seem so cool for Jedu to run around controlling people against their will just because they are "weak minded".
