Well, it might have been since they made a cheese CGI intro where the host goes into the Vortex. I have no idea how much it cost, but regardless, they had it and they got rid of it. One assumes because no one watched it. |

Here's an idea for a Sci-Fi show. We could have this guy trapped in a spaceship in outer space. We'll name him Joel... or maybe Mike. Anyway, he and his two robot pals have nothing to do but spend each week watching...
They did have that, and then it got cancelled.

By the way, to answer the question in the title, I would say that they are drinking the same stuff that the CARTOON NETWORK is. Sterno, is my guess.

I think CN went wrong with splitting out the old cartoons from their new ones. The old ones had the appeal of drawing in the adults once-in-awhile who might then watch some of the newer ones with their kids. Without the old cartoons, they really don't have enough material. How does a network go from The Power Puff Girls (which in its prime was brilliant), Samari Jack, Johnny Bravo, etc. to the trash of today? Plus, this is just a feeling on my part, once they started running Adult Swim, they seemed to lose focus on their younger audience.
ZW, I caught your nice little bit of sarcasm, but JSJ and Sardu seem to have been asleep or they are too young to remember.

Remember when Sci-Fi used to have interviews with - gasp - respected science fiction authors? Remember Harlan Ellison's great commentary segments every week?
It's still not as bad as what happened to TechTV, though.

What, too young to remember MST3K AIRED ON THE COMEDY CHANNEL FOR 8 YEARS before it moved to the SciFi Network? That was my little sarcasm... very little apparently... *g*

I think part of the problem that CN experienced was that it seemed like they got WAY too fixated on anime at the cost of original programming. I think one reason they're so in love with anime is that they're dealing with an already proven and successful show, with a guaranteed fanbase and audience, that could potentially already have a huge merchandising wing behind it in the form of comics, games, toys, etc.
But the truth be told, I don't care a lot about watching Scooby Doo and old Looney Toons, given that I grew up watching those things to death. What I WOULD like to see is a return of a lot of more 80s things that I haven't seen in years: The Alf* and Alftales*, Real Ghostbusters, Transformers, Capt. Power, Silverhawks, etc.
(IIRC, they at one time DID have the rights to the Alf cartoons, which I'd love to see again--a lot better than the TV show, IMO.) |

A lot of the 'classic' CN content (like the old Hanna Barbera shows) are on BOOMERANG, their digital channel. |

| One thing I would like to see CN (or Boomerang) do is buy out the Filmation library. Half the cartoons I watched growing up were from Filmation, Hanna-Barbera's then competitor. Shows like The Archies, the original Sabrina the Teen-Aged Witch, The Groovey Ghoulies, Star Trek the animated series and others deserve their place in Boomerang lore at least as much as your average rerun of Scooby Do does. |

Perhaps the Sci-Fi channel is another example of this law in action. In ten years there will be no science ficion on their schedule.

| Yeah, but those shows aren't all that funny. Maybe they should rename themselves Snarky Central or something. |

South Park and Reno 911 are pretty damn funny. SP is probably my favorite show on TV. The rest- meh.
