Anyone here think that this is the most Jabootu worthy title of this year?

| I'd need to see the original first, then see the remake for comparison. I've heard the first go-around was pretty good. |

| You should definitely see the first before letting the second one ruin anything for you. |

Without even having seen it I will confidently predict that this movie sucks like a black hole. It sounds like a Razzie sweep to me. The original had its flaws, but it was a cool idea and the casting was great. But it seems to me that as soon as they moved the setting of the remake from England to America it was doomed, regardless of the other stupid changes. Watch it and you'll see why.

Wasn't the original Christopher Lee's favorite horror film, or am I misremembering?

Saw it last weekend. I wasn't aware there was even an original and that this was a remake. Frankly, I was miffed at the movie previews that were rigged in such a way as to make this look like a supernatural horror flick. It just weren't so.
Spoiler warning.
Felt like a ripoff of a book called "Harvest Home" that I read probably 15 years ago. I had a very strong suspicion that Cage was being set up as a sacrificial offering early in the movie.
And I think Cage was the wrong guy for the lead in this movie. Too many of his lines come off as humorously sarcastic, causing the audience to chuckle (when they are desperate for some sort of emotion to invoked by the movie).
The scene where he assumes a place in the procession dressed as a big grizzly bear is just hilarious and when he runs up the hill in that bear costume and cold-cocks a woman, the audience just laughed. |

For years Lee said he felt Wicker Man was the best film he had ever been in. That was before LOTR- though who knows, he may still feel that way!!

Indeed, you are correct, there are many similarities between Thomas Tryon's novel "Harvest Home" and the movie The Wicker Man; interestingly, both Tryon's book and the original Wicker Man were released in the same year, 1973. I guess there was just something in the air that year.
BTW, Tryon's novel was later adapted as a TV movie, The Dark Secret of Harvest Home with Bette Davis and Rosanna Arquette. |

Honestly, no. Jabootu films, for me, have some small element of charm and 'fun' no matter how technically incompetent or artistically deficient they are.
Contemplating this thing, on the other hand, just makes me sad and nauseated. Remaking something like Price's House of Wax is bad enough, but desecrating Wicker Man is just sickening.

| Did anyone besides me notice that Edward Woodward played Sergeant Howie in the original film and in the remake, Willow and Rowan are mother and daughter and their family name is Woodward? |

The original "Wicker Man" is terrifying purely for the sheer amount of British folk music in it.
Does the remake have lots of singing too?

This is not uncommon, and it occurs because the image of Elke Summers naked confuses and overwhelms the cerebral cortex. Just shut your eyes and within minutes you will be free to properly process the incoming audio data for the foul hippie wailing it is. *g*

No, really. The maypole song and dance number was my favorite part of the movie.
And for the record, it was Britt Ekland.
(By now, readers who've never seen the original Wicker Man are going, "What the --?") |

This will be rectified right soon; I've got the original in my Netflix queue. Would it be a good idea to move it up to the top of my list? |
