Paul Schrader is making a movie about two Holocaust survivors who end up as clowns in an asylum. I just learned of the project from my favourite film magazine, which also states that "the little-known jerry Lewis film "The day the clown cried" could be one of the films that have inspired the idea."
Looks like Jabootu is casting its spell over Schrader again, after having him fired from the making of the last Exorcist film.

| Its not what material you handle; its how you handle it. Michael Jacot's novel, The Last Butterfly, about a clown forced to entertain children at the Terezin concentration camp, before they and he are deported to Auschwitz, is a gut wrenching, heartbreaking story, though I don't think there's an actor around who could play the protagonist. |

Well, I would say Roberto Benigni, but he did his concentration camp movie and got a friggin Acadamy Award for it.

Initially I threw out Jim Carrey as a joke, but actually he's showing signs of having a certain amount of talent. I'd still be afraid to see him take on something like that though. De Niro can do anything, of course.
