Really, I wish Sly well. He has no one to blame but himself for the joke he's devolved to in moviedom, but deep down he is a very talented guy (and a better actor than people give him credit for).
He was good in NIGHT HAWKS. |

I don't know what is so disturbing about Rambo praying before going into battle against so obvious bad people.
My platoon always said a prayer before going outside the wire in Baghdad. I usually continued saying one for the entire time we were outside the wire.
Movie audiences will tend to be sympathetic to Christian missionaries trying to go into a place and save some lives.
I doubt this movie would be as successful if instead of missionaries it featured guilt-ridden, white, middle-class war protestors going into the country to act as "human shields" to protect important rogue regime installations from allied air attacks.
Rambo would likely just as soon let those people get what is coming to them...as would I.

You can bet some missionaries are going to die, otherwise we wouldn't know how bad those... Burmese? are.
I'm sort of OK with Rambo dying (if we end up with that). It makes sense with his background, all his life trying to leave violence behind yet not being able to. |

People keep talking about this like it was an official trailer, which it isn't. Just a demo reel for Cannes. I'm sure the real trailer will contain the missing one-liners, Goldsmith, etc.
That said, it does look great. I don't know why he went with the missionary angle, but judging from this footage he may be after the Passion of the Christ crowd. |

Could be. I'm told he stressed the Christian angle on Rocky Balboa during the promo interviews, too, and Rambo needs a new subtext now that anti-communism is not "on"*. I remember an interview on Stallone putting the blame of Rambo III's failure at the box office on the political events at the time. It's clear to me that he doesn't want to make the same mistake again.
*Which is sort of fun, you know, because from what you read on the news headlines Russia hasn't changed that much. |

Citizen Carrier...
No worries about RATM. They've been broken up for a couple of years now. I guess they could still use their music though...
I thought they got back together when Audioslave broke up?
As for the trailer, I am shocked as hell that it is as gorey as it is. I would have expected seeing Rambo grab the monstrous machine gun and point it at the guy and then a close up of muzzle flares. I didn't expect to see the guy's body disintigrate like that. Not in a trailer. They're either giving away the milk for free or this movie is going to be off the hook. Safe bet is on the first one. |

| Well, it's not exactly a trailer. According to the people at AICN Stallone sent them the clip, which was edited together to sell the film to distributors at Cannes. I guess the final trailer will be far less gory, although now that it has spread like that the may leave it as it is. |

As far as I know, that RATM reunion was a one-time deal for some festival or other. Tom Morello's got some other project happening right now.

You know, it's funny how Stallone always pushes the Christian subtext considering how gay the Rambo movies are. Seriously, they consist of him running around without a shirt and his little bandana, all oiled up, firing a phallic machine gun and grunting, while having a suspiciously close relationship with Trautman, and as someone mentioned, there's no place for the chicks. Hell, the original subtitles for John Rambo were "In The Serpent's Eye" and "Pearl Of The Cobra"

Action films are often short of girls. |

I don't get it. Why is this "funny"? Is there some irony I'm missing here? |

Well, Christianism isn't exactly known for its tolerance of homosexuals (although I'll agree that coming out of the closet might carry worse consequences under other faiths), and these action movies can be interpreted as homoerotic, because they always have a scene where the hero loses his shirt / pants / both and gets to stretch his oily muscles. My guess is that this is a side effect of having too many athletes and bodybuilders as actors, and the resulting double readings are often hilarious (remember that gay interpretation of Top Gun?)
You can find further evidence at the "Ruthless Reviews" website. They may be full of sh*t when it comes to their politics, but their analysis of homoeroticism in 80s action movies is absolutely side splitting. |

Right, but I don't see why mainstream Christianity would have a problem with any of that. It's the extremists who rant about it.
Anyway John Rambo firmly demonstrated his heterosexuality in the first two films. |

| I don't think any Christian movement will bring this on the table, as the Rambo films are too popular, but it makes for some tasty irony. |
