PPPPPttttttttt. Better that than Jason and the Argonauts though. If they messed with that one it'd be somebody's a$$.

So true, saw Bangkok Dangerous last night. Thought that Cage was ridiculous. That stupid hairdo didn't help.

The second WTF? moment of the day came when I took a visit to AICN and learned there *might* be a Red Dawn remake in the works. Looks very pointless to me. Like many of the Cold War / Reagan era action films, Red Dawn is a product of a very peculiar historical moment. Would a film like that gather enough audience these days? Would it be taken seriously? Will it be a no-nonsense blockbuster a la Independence day or it will try to be a serious film?

Here's some possible plot details (courtesy of www.beyondhollywood.com) ) for Red Dawn:

" - The bad guys/invaders will now be the Red Chinese, who knocks off America in the first 20 pages, and gets help from those stinkin’ Russians later in the movie. The cause of the invasion? Oil, of course. There are hints that America is kinda to blame, too. In today’s PC environment, that’s not too much of a surprise.
- Our heroes: Jed is now a former Marine back from Iraq and Matt his high school star quarterback brother; Erica is now an Asian-American cheerleader; and Danny is the African-American star running back. Basically, all the original characters will return (including keeping the same names) but as different archetypes."

They've managed to mix the jingoism of the original with Political Correctness. I'm all in shock.

That one's especially pointless. Why remake Clash of the Titans, which was based on Greek myth? Why not just make a movie based on Greek myth?

Because then we wouldn't be talking about it and they would have to pay for a real advertising campaign. Which wouldn't be half as effective as the good memories from the original film.

Wasn't sure whether to place this here or start a new thread, but considering a version was filmed in 1935 I guess it can be considered a remake. Anyway, a film version of John Carter of Mars is being made. Andrew Stanton of Toys, Monster Inc., WALL-E, Up fame will direct. Taylor Kitsch will star as John Carter and Lynn Collins will play Dejah Thoris.

The whole story behind other attempts at producing John Carter of Mars can be found here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Carter_of_Mars_(film)

Interesting to see how this turns, but considering that Disney is financing the project I bet a lot of the original story is going to toned down. So I guess we won't be seeing anything like this: "She was as destitute of clothes as the green Martians who accompanied her; indeed, save for her highly wrought ornaments she was entirely naked, nor could any apparel have enhanced the beauty of her perfect and symmetrical figure". (Dejah Thoris' first appearance - Chapter 10, Princess of Mars)

Actually, its Chapter 8, not Chapter 10

According to the boys over at the Beyond Hollywood website there is a new version of Spartacus coming out. Apparently, instead of a film it will be a TV series. Executive producers are Rob Tapert, Steven S. DeKnight (never heard of either guy) and Sam Raimi. The series will star Lucy Lawless, Erin Cummings, Andy Whitfield and Peter Mensah.

The series will start in Jan 2010 on the Starz TV network (never heard of it either).

Apparently, the series will be rife with blood and gore, and full frontal nudity (both male and female). Does that mean Zena is going to get down and dirty?? Only time will tell.

More info and trailer can be found here and here .
