Okay! Let's try this again.
Chances that the female scientists will be smarter than her male counterparts: 6 to 5
Chances that the heros will be trapped in a building at some point: 1 to 1
Chances that the United States government warned people about this and not the U.N. or some other foriegn entity and not the other way around: 5 to 1
Chances that the pandemic will start NOT because of some capitalist desire to overlook some safety thing because it would interfer with profits. 10 to 1
Chances that the movie might not have a subtext about hunting or endangered species being killed by thoughtless developers who's projects pushed infected species in to the public: 15 to 1
Chances that strict anti-hunting regulation, which would thin out bird populations, would be to blame for the pandemic: 50 to 1
This is for starters, of course. Feel free to add your own numbers.

Chances that a vaccine/antidote has been found, but only small amounts are available, so EEEEVIL politicians or high-ranking members of the military are hoarding it for their and their families/cronies use: 4 To 1

That might be too far fetched(even for them).
But I wouldn't put it past them.

Actually, the preview mentions something about people demanding a vaccine but not being enough available so I wouldn't count on the evil greedy corporate entity factor as opposed to just there not being enough to go around.
And I wouldn't count on the whole bird hunting thing either since you don't see any hunters (or birds for that matter) in the preview.

Chances that the Bird Flu panic is fake or the result of a over-zealous media reporting inaccuate information: 7 to 1

Chances that a group of right-wing fanatics will take advantage of the civil unrest resulting from the epidemic to attempt to establish fascism: 3:1
Chances that a sensitive scientist, led to enlightenment by the love of a good woman, will turn on his amoral peers (who are only interested in science-y stuff and care nothing of the moral implications of their potentially EEEEVIL work) to give the world the life saving serum it so desperately needs (without any animal testing needed at all-yay!!): 1:1
Chances that mankind, though granted a second chance it does not deserve, will not learn from its mistakes and is destined to force Mother Nature's hand again some day: 1:3

Actually, to the film's credit, and keep in mind I'm only going by the TV preview, I'm of the impression that Stacy Keach plays the head of the CDC or some other high ranking gov't and he and scientist Joely Richardson are actually working together on the same page without any dispute.
On the other hand, from what I saw I wouldn't be shocked if there was a subplot involving the overzealous military using lethal force to control the situation.

Chances that I'm sick of hearing about what horrible disease is "certain" to wipe out humanity: .... uh, actually I don't know how those "odds" are supposed to work. I don't want to slip up and look like a buffoon.
Seriously, my whole life there's been a terrible virus or bacteria that's "sure" to become the "next pandemic." Whether it was the much-feared flesh-eating virus (how many people did it actually kill? three?) to ebola to AIDS to SARS to more natural causes like (remember this one?) swarms of freakin' killer bees swarming up from South America, not to mention nuclear, chem and bio weapons. We're doomed! We're doomed! No more soup, Jerry - no more soup for any of us! |

"Fatal Contact: Bird Flu in America" is set to air May 9, reports Michael Starr at the NY POST.
The movie stars Stacy Keach, Joely Richardson, Ann Cusack and Justine Machado in a tale of a worst-case scenario, if the bird-flu virus was transmitted to humans in America.
"We feel we're providing a level of awareness and we've gone to great effort to make sure the film is accurate," co-producer Judith Verno said. "We've included a lot of information we believe people need to know."
"We had wonderful consultants who were actually ahead of the [bird-flu] curve," Kerew said. "The way the disease popped up in China, then moved to Turkey and Africa, were things we already knew about."
"Our movie has a character who was in Iraq and got the bird flu there and survived - and, as we were shooting, the bird flu hit Iraq," Verno said.
