Jackie Gleason as Sheriff Buford T. Justice.

"Were you ever in the Klan, daddy?"

"No, but your momma was. She looked like an iceberg with feet."

How about the Queen from Alien?
Or the Witch in Blair Witch Project?
Or the Floating Dead Girl in The Ring

Should we include MONSTERS? I don't think so.

Vultura from Perils Of Nyoka. (One day I will write a review that MIGHT proove that NYOKA was the real villainess in this serial!)
Charels Middleton as Ming, the mercyless.

As long as the monsters leave an impression, I think they're acceptable.

Like the girl from The Ring. I'm an Iraq War veteran. When she came out of the TV, I would've either thrown a couch at her and ran for my life or fainted dead away.

I was just thinking "Pinhead" from the Hellraiser movies. He's pretty cool...even if the movies have gotten progressively worse.

Ditto for Angus Scrimm, the old man from the Phantasm movies. He'd scare the crap out of me.

Mr. Harry Roat, from Scarsdale (Alan Arkin) in Wait Until Dark

Candyman (Tony Todd) in Candyman

Marcellus Wallace (Ving Rhames) in Pulp Fiction

I think he's been mentioned already, but it bears repeatin': Auric Goldfinger (Gert Frobe). "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!"

Peter Lorre in Mad Love. It's faint praise, but Lorre was an utterly compelling neurotic in this film. It's like he combines every nightmare you have when dealing with someone who is a bit ... off.

Vincent Price in Masque of the Red Death. One of the subplots of this film involved his failed attempt to convert a religious Christian village girl to satanism. One of the bits that really struck me was a moment when Price's character reminds her of the tortures of the Inquisition; her reply is "I cannot answer. I have no learning." How often do you have a villain who engages a hero intellectually? Considering it was a cheapie, this film has aged more gracefully than most.

Orson Welles, The Third Man. I've got the Harry Lime radio show as well; it's wonderful, but the character is very much toned down from the original. And it's a good thing too -- a weekly series honest to the character would be horrific.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terminator. Didn't like the second film much, didn't see the third. His enormous success has, I think, sparked a lot of reaction against his work, but this film shows how terrifyingly effective he was in the right role. Honestly, I think the only false moment in his performance here is his reflexive blink while firing a gun.

Boris Karloff Bedlam. This is probably one of his best roles; his comeuppance at the end would normally be terrifying, but here he deserves it so manifestly that it is an utter delight.

Simone Simon Cat People. Yes, I got the Val Lewton Collection recently; why do you ask? Anyway, this character and portrayal is practically a byword for not showing what's going on. Another byword from this film is The Bus; a bit of wonderful misdirection I won't spoil.

Angus Scrimm, Phantasm. Yes, the sequels were awful, but the first film deserves some credit for his impressive performance, and for some truly disturbing images.

Three men walk into a resturant, one has a shotgun, another has a rifle. The third is unshaven and carries a revolver in his vest.

(Man with shotgun) "Now everybody just stay calm. This is Duke Mantee the killer, and he's hungry."

Good one, Nemo!

Hasn't Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer) in Blade Runner been mentioned? Well, he has now.

Three Ians in a row....

Ash (Ian Holm) in Alien

Mr. Book (Ian Richardson) in Dark City

Frank Miller (Ian MacDonald) in High Noon

Would Neil MacCauley (Robert De Niro) in Heat count as a villain? I think he does (he and Vincent spell out their differences in the coffee shop: Vincent will kill to protect others, while Neil will kill to protect himself), and he's a damn good one.

Joshua (Tim Roth) in Little Odessa

This may be violating the rule of only having a villain who gets a good amount of screen time, but I'll throw in Mr. Neville (Kenneth Branagh) from Rabbit-Proof Fence.

Cardinal Richelieu (Charlton Heston), Rochefort (Christopher Lee), and Lady de Winter (Faye Dunaway) in The Three Musketeers and The Four Musketeers.

Frank (Henry Fonda) in Once Upon a Time in the West.

Mad Dog (Philip Kwok) in Hard-Boiled.

The Beast (Siu-Lung Leung) in Kung Fu Hustle.

Arthur Leigh Allen (John Carroll Lynch) in Zodiac, assuming of course that he really was the Zodiac Killer.

Dumb-ass movie, but a great villain:

Skeletor (Frank Langella) from Masters of the Universe

Come to think of it, Meg Foster was no slouch as Evil-Lyn.

Angel Eyes! Of course, we should have mentioned him by now. He's not completely cold-blooded (there's a scene where he visits a campaign hospital and you can see that what he sees is affecting him), but his lack of concern for anybody but himself and his intelligence make him extremely dangerous.
